Making a donation is easy and there’s lots of ways you can help.
BY POST
To make a donation today please send a cheque payable to “The Nelson Trust” to The Fundraising Department, The Nelson Trust, Port Lane, Brimscombe, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 2QJ.
GIVE REGULARLY BY STANDING ORDER
You can also set up a regular gift with your bank or building society. Many supporters find donating by standing order the easiest way to support our work. Your donation is automatically taken care of through your bank, and you can choose to give a fixed amount regularly that fits in with your monthly budget.
Standing Orders really do help us to plan for the future by providing a regular source of income which we can use to make a real and lasting difference to our clients and their families, safe in the knowledge we have the continuing funding. Click here to download a form.
ORGANISE AN EVENT
Organising a fundraising event of your own in support of the Nelson Trust or collecting sponsorship for the Trust as part of a larger national event, for example a Marathon or Fun Run then please contact our Fundraising Team.
You can do this by calling 01453 732072 or emailing fundraising@nelsontrust.com. We will be happy to provide you with sponsorship forms, fundraising advice, more information about the Trust, and help you link up to JustGiving.com. We would love to hear from you.
Legacy
By leaving a gift to The Nelson Trust in your will you can help us to build a better future for people who desperately need help to live a life beyond addiction. Whether or not you have had a personal experience of addiction in your life, we would encourage you to consider making a legacy which will support our work. Please contact us to advise us if you have decided to mention us in your will, or if you would like any advice and information. You can download our Legacy Guide by clicking here.
In Memory Fund
One local family who lost their son as a result of his addiction have chosen to set up a fund in his memory, in order to help others who have a chance to overcome their addiction with our support. His close family all contribute to annual donations which they send to us to mark his birthday and also at Christmas. We think this is a great way to keep his memory alive at the Nelson Trust and to help others achieve recovery. We keep a record of the money raised in his memory and we update his family by explaining how their funds have been used. If you would like to pay tribute to the life of someone close to you, an appeal or a donation in their memory is a truly effective way of honouring their name by achieving good and helping vulnerable people.
About Gift Aid
If you are a UK tax payer please fill in the Gift Aid Declaration online at the bottom of this section and increase the value of your donation. To qualify for Gift Aid, what you pay in income tax or capital gains tax must at least equal the amount we claim in the tax year. A declaration can be made to cover individual donations, a series of donations, donations made during a specified period or all future donations. These can also be backdated for up to 6 years prior to the date of the declaration.
Remember to declare all your eligible Gift Aided donations on your tax return to raise your tax threshold by that amount. Gift Aid is tax relief on money donated to UK charities. Nelson Trust can reclaim this tax to increase the value of your donation. Gift aid rules: Donors must pay enough UK income tax and/or capital gains tax to cover the amount of tax the Nelson Trust will reclaim. Tax relief: If a donor pays the basic rate of tax, they cannot claim further tax relief on the payments’ higher rate of tax. They can claim higher rate relief on the payments by entering details of the donations in the Gift Aid box on their self-assessment tax return. Donors who receive a form P810 can declare their Gift Aid payments on it.
