The Nelson Trust Annual Golf Day was established in 2013 in honour of the late Richard Lister who served as Chair of The Nelson Trust from 2000 to 2011. Richard was instrumental in the growth of the charity and his memory lives on. In true family tradition, Tom Lister of Lister Communications was the first to tee off at Minchinhampton Golf Club on the lovely sunny morning of 18th September. Read More

30th Anniversary Story - Bob

Bob Jones* first arrived at the Nelson Trust in July 2008 after leaving prison in 2007. Since his early teens Bob had been drinking heavily, losing jobs and unable to turn up to work. Bob would drink and use and became unable to hold down a job. Prison provided respite. After leaving prison in 2007 Bob found accommodation but was living with people who were drinking and using and he knew he had to leave for his own good. Read More

New sex worker project in Swindon recognised at national awards

A year into a new collaboration aimed at getting vulnerable sex workers off the streets, the ISIS Women's Centre in Swindon was shortlisted for a national award. Sex outreach worker Sue Lee started in her post last year, and works hand in hand with vice liaison officer Lou Kuklinski, of Wiltshire Police. Read More

The Nelson Trust hosts record-breaking numbers at their 30th Anniversary reunion and fete

Record-breaking numbers of past clients and their families celebrated our 30th Anniversary on Saturday 11th July. 170 people came from all corners of the UK to celebrate this very special landmark and their own recovery from addiction. Our founder, Mary Brash who lives just up the hill in Amberley, cut the huge cake. She was presented with some flowers in acknowledgement of all the hard work that she and her husband put in to get the charity set up back in 1985. A fantastic spread was laid on by The Nelson Trust’s most recent project, The Hub Bistro, a newly-opened café in Gloucester with an outside catering service. We all finished lunch with the usual Serenity Prayer and went into an all-singing, all-dancing bonanza of a Fete and Family Fun Day. Read More
