Lawyers are drawing up a new programme of fundraising events after choosing The Nelson Trust as their charity of the year. The team of around 80 staff from Gloucestershire law firm Willans LLP are planning quizzes, raffles, concerts and competitions to raise money for the local charity.
Members of the Willans charity fundraising committee visited our Women’s Centre in Gloucester to learn about our work and see how the funds raised will be used.
In previous years Willans’ staff have raised around £11,000 each year for their chosen charities and they hope to match this figure once again.
James Grigg, partner at Willans and head of the charity committee, said: “The tour of the Women’s Centre opened our eyes to the sheer amount of good work that The Nelson Trust does to support women completely overwhelmed by addiction, domestic violence, homelessness and mental health issues. We hope that we can help increase awareness of their work locally through our events as well as raise funds to support them with their objectives.
“We have sprung into action already with a ‘spring clean’ campaign by encouraging staff to donate items of clothing, children’s toys, household products and toiletries and will pass all donations on to the centre in the next few weeks. We are also speaking to venues about dates for fundraisers over the next 12 months.”
The law firm is organising a pool tournament on 9 November at Lounge 72 (70-72 High St, Cheltenham, GL50 1EG). This is always a sell-out event, so please book in advance. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to donate prizes or to take part in this competition fundraiser.
